The Mentor Corps

Yes, even old fishermen can learn new casts! So here I go with a blog. Quite frankly, I'm very excited about this new way for me to share up-to-date ministry news with you. I will lift up current Mentor Corps activities, highlight our ministry needs and share some inspiring testimonials I call the "Front lines" of Mentors and Mentees. Thank you for being engaged with me through your prayers, comments, feedback and support!

We had our first annual picnic celebration with more than 50 friends, family, Mentors and Mentees. We enjoyed fellowship, great food and music and gave recognition for those actively serving in Mentor Corps throughout the year.

Thirty five Mentors received their service pin for current active mentoring or past mentoring work. Fifteen Mentees received their service pin for meeting the significant Mentee requirements and for showing the “Fruit” of their personal growth.

Ministry Partnerships

  • Jim trained 30 men to become Mentors in 5 different local ministries.
  • Started two new business ventures with personal and business guidance from a Mentor Corps Entrepreneurship Team. One man was assisted in starting his own LLC Shoe Care service while another man was assisted in starting his own LLC Bicycle Repair and Sales business.
  • Jim continues to serve others by sharing his mentoring methods with 10 ministries within the R3 collaboration.
  • In 2009, Jim and Peter Taves, the Program Director for Construction Career Training Program created the Work Readiness Workshop and Renewal Program, a series of workshops for men at The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. Eighty men attended these workshops which helped them define their skills, strengths and prepared them for hard questions about their past through mock interviews. The participants felt these workshops helped prepare them for their job search and renewal journey.
