The Mentor Corps

Yes, even old fishermen can learn new casts! So here I go with a blog. Quite frankly, I'm very excited about this new way for me to share up-to-date ministry news with you. I will lift up current Mentor Corps activities, highlight our ministry needs and share some inspiring testimonials I call the "Front lines" of Mentors and Mentees. Thank you for being engaged with me through your prayers, comments, feedback and support!

Host a book drive. We organize book drives and pick up donations at your workplace or home. For more information, call Steve at AlphaCitiCorps at 952-239-9131.

Donate a vehicle. Donate your car to the DonationLine by calling 1-877-227-7487, ext. 2477 and mention Mentor Corps. Make sure to have the title in hand when they pick your car up (anywhere in the USA). Once the car is sold, Mentor Corps receives a major portion of the sale.

What we’re doing on the “Front Lines.”

For me, the key was staying connected with the Bible to guide both of us as to what expectations Christ had for our relationship. This lays the groundwork for getting into life issues that need to be dealt with by removing the road blocks to transformation. I saw the power of the Holy Spirit work through Michael (Mentee) and I knew I could do this because the Holy Spirit was guiding me too. It is a joy for me and the other Mentor Corps leaders and mentors to share what really works in this discipleship mentoring process.” – Bob Younghans (Mentor, pictured above, left)

“The mentoring I got from my Mentor Corps Mentor, Dave Ophaug, has been a lasting turning point in my life. For over 3 years I have sustained my renewal of a clean life. I have reconciled with my family and am a manager at a Salvation Army Thrift Store. Everyone close to me knows the kind of tough love and accountability I got from all of the Mentor Corps leaders for over 2 years. I praise God for his renewing powers within me and for Mentor Corps at my side.”- John Jacobs (Mentee)

Newsletter highlights:

We are expanding our partnership with the Lino Lakes Prison InnerChange Freedom Initiative (IFI) to help recruit men from IFI who could become a part of a Mentor Corps Discipleship Battle Unit upon their reentry into society. I (pictured on right) am currently mentoring Larcell who will be released in September. Rocky DeYoung, (pictured on left) the Reentry Manager and other IFI staff have been very affirming of our discipleship-mentoring model and we look forward to our continued “march” together.
